all about the third story workshop

Winter Session begins Jan. 21 and runs to April 8

What is it?

A virtual workshop conducted in the Winter (January-March) and Fall (September-December) quarters on Tuesday evenings (6:30pm ET) designed to help people reclaim the narrative of their lives in an essay they can share with others.

What Will You Get Out of It?

By the end of the eleven weeks, you will have the backbone of a larger essay or manuscript—or a stand-alone account of your journey to becoming who you are today. You’ll also gain the benefits of what researchers call “focused expressive writing,” a practice shown to improve mental health, enhance physical well-being, and build positive coping strategies.

Additionally, you’ll leave with tools and techniques to continue the deep, reflective writing we explore in class.

How Much Does It Cost?

Just $1,200 with a limited-time reduction, no discount code needed. If you are currently without steady income or are a member of a historically disadvantaged minority (including those with disabilities), scholarships are available. Please contact me using this website’s contact form.

Who Is It For?

This workshop is designed for individuals who have experienced at least one significant shift in their lives—an event, decision, conversation, or environment that changed how they see themselves or the world. These experiences can be positive or negative. Examples include:

  • Entering recovery (addiction, eating disorders, PTSD, co-dependency)

  • Living with a chronic illness or disability

  • Leaving a relationship

  • Losing a loved one

  • Changing careers

  • Experiencing a profound life event of any kind

Let me know if you'd like me to tweak anything further!

I’ve taken music classes from good musicians who don’t know how to teach, and I’ve taken computer programming classes from computer programmers who have no idea how to teach. This is not that. This is a course by a very gifted writer who knows exactly what she’s doing.

One of the most beautiful things that happened in this course is our search for truth — in everything, in the way that we speak about our day, in the way that we are supposed to write, how we are showing up.
— Jeffly
I’ve definitely never really been in a learning environment where anything that you could do was just gravy. Really, all you had to do was show up. And that was actually true and honest and not a trap.
