all about the third story workshop
Winter Session begins Jan. 21 and runs to April 8
What is it?
A virtual workshop conducted in the Winter (January-March) and Fall (September-December) quarters on Tuesday evenings (6:30pm ET) designed to help people reclaim the narrative of their lives in an essay they can share with others.
Still have questions? Read on.
What will you get out of it?
At the end of eleven weeks, you will have the backbone of a larger essay/manuscript or a stand-alone account of your journey to who you are today. You will also gain the benefits of what researchers call “focused expressive writing,” a practice shown to improve mental health and physical well-being and build positive coping strategies.
You’ll also have tools and techniques to do more of the kind of deep writing we pursue in class.
How much does it cost?
The full class price is $1500, but you can get a 25% discount by signing up at least three weeks. If you are currently without a steady income or a member of a historically disadvantaged minority (including those with disabilities), I offer scholarships. Please drop me a line via this website’s contact form here.
Who is it for?
The workshop structure supports those who have experienced at least one powerful shift in their lives — an event or decision or conversation or environment that changes the way they think about themselves or the world. That experience can be positive or negative. Some examples:
Entering any sort of recovery (addiction, eating disorders, PTSD, co-dependency)
Living through a chronic illness or disability
Leaving a relationship
Losing a loved one
Changing careers
Having a profound life experience of any kind
