What is The Slow Burn?

A 4-Week Saturday Intensive Workshop + 4 Months of Writing Support

1pm ET/Noon CT

Sessions start May 3

What is it?

Don’t burn out—burn slow. This workshop helps you build a sustainable, nourishing writing practice—one that feels natural and rewarding instead of an obligation.

Maybe you’ve compared yourself to real” writers: People who wake up at 5 AM, hit a word count, and publish constantly. But what if writing wasn’t about checking boxes?

The Slow Burn is about process over product—learning to write in a way that keeps you engaged and moving forward without burnout. You’ll explore pacing, momentum, and tricking your brain into finding joy in writing—even in the worst ruts.

Created by Ana Marie Cox, a writer with nearly 30 years of publishing experience, The Slow Burn is built on the idea that writing is something you return to, not something you have to force.

How does it work?

The Slow Burn meets Saturdays at 1 PM ET via Zoom for four weeks in May. Each session is a mix of guided discussion, reflective exercises, and low-pressure writing prompts designed to help you build a sustainable, joyful writing practice.

What You'll Gain:

A writing practice that supports you instead of burning you out
Tools to move through stuck points without self-judgment
A more compassionate, flexible approach to creativity
A supportive community of like-minded writers
Ongoing enrichment with monthly meet-ups through August

All participants will have access to a private Discord server where you can:

  • Stay connected with fellow writers between sessions

  • Share progress, ideas, and insights

  • Get additional support, encouragement, and resources

After The Slow Burn, you’ll receive an exclusive alumni discount on future workshops, continuing to build long-term sustainability in your creative practice.

Who Should Join?

  • Writers who struggle with consistency but don’t want rigid rules

  • Anyone tired of the boom-and-bust cycle of creativity

  • People who love writing but feel frustrated by unrealistic expectations

  • Anyone looking for a more sustainable and joyful writing practice

If you write, you are a writer. This is for you.

I’ve taken music classes from good musicians who don’t know how to teach, and I’ve taken computer programming classes from computer programmers who have no idea how to teach. This is not that. This is a course by a very gifted writer who knows exactly what she’s doing.
— Chris
One of the most beautiful things that happened in this course is our search for truth — in everything, in the way that we speak about our day, in the way that we are supposed to write, how we are showing up.
— Jeffly
I’ve definitely never really been in a learning environment where anything that you could do was just gravy. Really, all you had to do was show up. And that was actually true and honest and not a trap.
